Gimbal Stabilizer for Smartphone, 3-Axis Phone stabilizer

Powering on and connecting the app on the iPhone 11 Pro to the Hohem iSteady X and everything is straightforward. The connection is fast and works, and after an auto-calibration, everything’s ready to go; I’d say about 2-3 minutes for the complete initial set-up. The resolution of video taking based on your phone camera, if your phone camera supports 4K video, the app is able to make 4K video (The resolution is able to set in the app).It was a little tilted right out of the box after activating and powering it up, but tapping the power button five times sends it into auto-calibration mode. This takes around 40 seconds to complete, and you’ll see your phone bounce around a little, and switch between horizontal and vertical a couple of times, but when it was completed, everything was perfectly level. When I turned the gimbal for the first time, the stabilization was smoooooth and refined. The defaults are a “just right” setting that gives you the feeling you are guiding the camera where you want it to go, totally intuitively and without any sense of lag. You can “float” your way through any walkable space with this stabilizer and get a great result. I found the iSteady X handles more predictably than other stabilizers, without the annoying drift I’ve experienced with some (many) others I have tried. And with the Hohem Pro app you can fine-tune all the parameters needed to customize the gimbal to your specific needs. The Type-C cable is your standard 12″ plastic-coated cable. No fancy silicone coating here, which makes me potentially question its longevity. But you’re only using it for charging then it’s not taking too much stress and replacement Type-C USB cables are very inexpensive now if you do ever need to buy a new one. Getting to grips with a camera gimbal always feels a little unnatural, but after learning the basics (for which Hohem do offer some useful tutorials) the iSteady X2 can produce impressively smooth footage. The maximum acceptable payload of 0.61lbs/9.88 ounces means the iSteady X can comfortably hold bigger phones like the iPhone 11 Pro Max (7.97 ounces) and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra (7.34 ounces).

Hohem iSteady X review – see if it’s the new gimbal king

As I said, this isn’t an uncommon issue and I faced the same issue with my ASUS ZenFone 5 and ASUS ZenFone 4. And this problem occurred whether or not my phone was in a case – although they’re usually in a case. If you’re just using your standard camera app rather than the Hohem Pro app, the button on the left won’t switch between modes. Instead, it will either shoot a photo if whatever app you’re using is in photo mode or it will start/stop recording if it’s in video mode. The offset arm design on the iSteady X doesn’t just help it fold up, but ensures that the gimbal pivots don’t end up in the frame. iSteady X marrying compact design with powerful 3.0 algorithm, which is the ultimate choice to be an everyday carry gear. There are some filters and pre-programed gimbal movements too, the most vaunted of which is the ‘inception effect’ but the smooth pan might be more useful. Since it doesn’t complicate the app (they’re well organized), it’s hard to complain about more features. After years of buying different stabilizers—starting with KenLab gyros, then a full Steadicam rig, followed by many motorized gimbals—I have finally found a combination that does everything I want at a price that makes it almost disposable. But this is no toy. Overall the standard stabilisation features worked well, but there was always the feeling that the vertical tilt is limited.

First and foremost is the vertical movement (tilt); you’ll see this displayed in the sample footage. The standard mechanical image stabilisation also works well, but some degree of knowing the gimbals limits is needed to make the most of its features. There is a slight downside to this design, however, which is that the maximum range of motion in the Y-axis is slightly more limited than the old-fashioned gimbal arm design. In 99% of cases, you won’t be nearing those limits, but it’s worth pointing out. Specs and Phone Compatibility Weight It's normal of the gimbal, the motors work to balance the smartphone based on its weight. It is recommended to power off the gimbal if it already works for hours.

Other features

In the hands, the iSteady X is definitely lightweight and it’s easy to believe its claim as the ‘world’s lightest gimbal’. Setting the gimbal up with my phone for the first time is where I ran into my first issue, although it’s not really an uncommon issue. I’m using the OnePlus 7 Pro, which is a fairly large phone (although, I suppose quite normal by today’s standards). For few products, we may schedule a technician visit to your location. On the basis of the technician's evaluation report, we will provide resolution. Operating Time (hrs): 9 hours; 4 hours (with AI vision sensor); 2 hours (with AI vision sensor & LED video light) When handheld gimbals first became a thing, I spent a lot more time reviewing the core stabilization performance of each gimbal I got my hands on.
