About this deal

After the success of Today I Started Loving You Again Sammi Smith signed to Elektra and released a trio of albums between 1976 and 1978. However, they failed to match the success of Today I Started Loving You Again and in she left the label after New Winds, All Quadrants in 1978.

Having signed to Columbia Records, Sammi Smith released He Went A Little Bit Farther later in 1967. Although the single failed to chart, commercial success wasn’t far away for Sammi Smith.A year after the release of her debut, Sammi Smith who had married second husband Jody Payne, returned with her sophomore album Lonesome in September 1971. Again, it was produced by Jim Malloy who brought about the best in country music’s rising star. It topped the US Billboard Country charts and reached number eight on the US Billboard 100. This led to the album being retitled Help Me Make It Through The Night. Sammi Smith's first Mega album "He's Everywhere" is probably my favorite Country Western album. You'll be hard-pressed to hear a more heartbreaking song than her take on "Sunday Morning Coming Down". Plus you get "Help Me Make It Through the Night", "He's Everywhere", or "But You Know I Love You", etc..... this is simply one of the greatest country albums ever. Help Me Make It Through The Night’ topped Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart for three weeks in 1971, peaked at #3 on Billboard’s Hot 100, won “Single of the Year” and the “Best Country Song” at the CMA awards, and a Grammy for “Best Country Vocal Performance by a Female”. Sammi’s voice would have been new to most listeners – its melancholic ache and sensuous depth suited the song’s needs perfectly.
