About this deal

Another enjoyable read in the Raker series. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep us guessing.

We meet David Raker who is a missing persons investigator, he is an interesting character and glad there are other books about him so that I can catch up on all the other novels. This is Raker 12. I’ve read them all and never got anywhere near the twists so this time I thought just relax and go with the flow and maybe that's the secret because this time I managed to figure out one small twist. Very proud of myself! The Last Goodbye is the twelfth book in the David Raker series, but (in my opinion) it can easily be read as a standalone. As an inadvertent latecomer to the series, beginning with the tenth book, I cannot help but feel a tinge of regret for not delving into David Raker's world sooner. However, I am delighted to report that my newfound enthusiasm has led me to acquire the first book in the series. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to immerse myself in the earlier works and discover the depths of character and storytelling that I have been missing. Master of the crime thriller Tim Weaver has returned with his latest – and possibly best – in the David Raker series. This is my first read by author Tim Weaver and this is actually book 12 in a series " David Raker", which I did not realise at first.

The master of clever, unpredictable plots. The Last Goodbye floored me with its perfectly executed twists and tense, original premise' CLAIRE DOUGLAS Healy is in a difficult situation and wrestles with his conscience, trying to keep Raker safe but knowing that it might be at the expense of his own life. And I genuinely did: I totally got her desire to have him here – someone she trusted, who made her feel safe – because she didn’t really know me at all and what she was asking me to do – the digging into her life, the questions I’d have to ask about the people that circled it – was something pretty far from safe. I’d met her in New York earlier in the year while I was there on holiday, a chance meeting in Bryant Park, and we’d got talking, and I’d ended up telling her what I did – and then she’d asked me for a card. But it had taken her two months to even phone me.In September 2015, Weaver wrote and presented an eight-part podcast series called Missing, looking into how and why people disappear. [14] It was selected by iTunes as one of the best podcasts of 2015. [15] In August 2016, Weaver recorded three further episodes. There are two cameras inside the ride: one is about a minute in; the second one is right at the end, prior to the exit. Tom and Leo are recorded passing the first camera.

I've read most of the David Raker series and really enjoyed all of them so was thrilled to have the opportunity to read The Last Goodbye, number 12 in the series. Tim Weaver (born 1977) is an English writer primarily known for his crime thrillers featuring missing persons investigator David Raker. As always, the story is complex and requires a lot of concentration to keep it straight in your head but if you have read his books before you will understand this and know it is definitely worth it. I feel like you do not have to read the other books in the series to understand and enjoy this novel. After a while, I began wondering why, although his books are a lot grittier and I don't agree with everything he's said re. politics, I found Anthony Horowitz's books just so much more appealing. And I eventually hit upon it: he lets women be bitches.

I just want answers,’ she said, even as the doubt lingered in her voice. She glanced at Travis and, again, I glimpsed the connection they had: familial, gentle, protective. ‘I just need to know why my mother disappeared. I need to know why I didn’t hear a thing from her for almost forty years.’ Family ties, love and loyalty are threads that also run through Exiles by Jane Harper, which also centres upon the mystery of a mother who vanished without trace. The fates of the two men are inextricably linked, although they vehemently deny any previous friendship. But while Healy stews behind bars, Raker has other fish to fry, courtesy of someone else we became acquainted with in the previous book. Rebekah Murphy is a Brit now living in New York – where the pair first met. She is in the UK to ask for Raker’s help to find her mother, who walked out of the family home in Cambridge nearly 40 years ago and vanished into thin air. Now Rebekah has started to receive condolence cards from her mother – or are they from someone else entirely? Another half-minute and the people who’d been standing behind the mother and the twins come out of the ride. Then the ones behind them, then the ones behind them. It’s like a conveyor belt of people, one after the next, heading in and then coming out. In this instalment David Raker has been asked by Rebekah Murphy, who we were introduced to in the previous book, to find her mother who disappeared in 1985 when Rebekah was three. She always wondered what happened to her. When she suddenly starts receiving condolence cards through the post who she thinks are from her mother.

ComputerAndVideoGames.com – About Tim Weaver". ComputerAndVideoGames.com . Retrieved 18 November 2013. I thoroughly enjoyed The Last Goodbye, which has an intricate plot that goes in a dark direction that I didn’t expect and some stunning twists on top of that. It’s what I regard as a proper grown up book, one that offers the reader the respect of assuming that they want depth along with the twists and turns and can cope with a lot of tension.
