About this deal

The acting is mediocre, just as the story (I guess that's because most of the cast only worked in porn movies before.) The script was incredibly pretentious and vain.

a b Gelend, Antonio (interviewee) (2003). In the Jungle: The Making of Cannibal Holocaust (Documentary). Italy: Alan Young Pictures. No, the nostalgia for yesteryear’s 42nd Street fodder instead seems to stem from the way the genre’s playful disregard for sexual propriety and “revolutionary” violence now serves as a premonitory anti-PC manifesto, refreshingly direct given the current era’s ultra-rhetorical, ultra-humorless public handwringing over the two cinematic topics that used to be lotsa larfs: sex and violence. Is there a money shot more tasteless or rewarding than that of The Gore Gore Girls, in which a killer dispatches with a shrieking bimbette via repeated bludgeonings to her bare ass with a meat tenderizer, topping off his handiwork with a dash of salt? Many of the censorship issues with Cannibal Holocaust concern the on-screen killings of animals. Deodato himself has condemned his past actions, [2] saying: "I was stupid to introduce animals." [45] Although six animal deaths appear onscreen, seven animals were killed for the production, as the scene depicting the monkey's death was shot twice, resulting in the death of two monkeys. Both of the animals were eaten by indigenous cast members, who consider monkey brains a delicacy. [12] The animals that were killed onscreen were:

Nonetheless, the BBFC recognised that the film, although strong, could be made acceptable, subject to the removal of the above scenes. The distributor therefore agreed to make five minutes 44 seconds of cuts to remove unacceptable elements, after which the film was passed at 18 for video and DVD release. Cuts were required in eight individual scenes:four scenes of sexual violence and four scenes of animal killing. Due to its graphic content, there are several different versions in circulation, edited to varying degrees. In the United Kingdom, it was originally released on VHS by Go Video in 1982 with approximately six minutes of cuts. These cuts were self-imposed by the distributor, possibly due to technical limitations of the tape. [66] In 2001, the film was passed for release on DVD by the British Board of Film Classification with five minutes and 44 seconds of cuts to remove scenes of animal cruelty and sexual violence; all but 15 seconds of these cuts were waived for a re-release in 2011. [39] The latter also includes a new edit sponsored by Deodato, which reduces the violence toward animals. [67] Grindhouse Releasing's home video releases contain an "Animal Cruelty Free" version that omits the six animal deaths. Other versions also contain alternative footage shot specifically for Middle Eastern markets that do not depict nudity. [12]

It becomes clear early on that surely someone in the group of NYU people must snap, unable to take what they're seeing anymore, and of course it does happen.

Cannibal Holocaust". Film and Video Labelling Body of NZ. Archived from the original on 4 March 2016 . Retrieved 12 January 2014. Robert Firsching of AllMovie made similar criticisms of the film's content, saying: "While the film is undoubtedly gruesome enough to satisfy fans, its mixture of nauseating mondo animal slaughter, repulsive sexual violence, and pie-faced attempts at socially conscious moralizing make it rather distasteful morally as well." [27] Slant Magazine's Eric Henderson said it is "artful enough to demand serious critical consideration, yet foul enough to christen you a pervert for even bothering." [28] When it was submitted for video and DVD release the BBFC examined the film very carefully in terms of its own publishedGuidelines. Egan, Kate (2002). The film's presentation of strong sexual violence infringed the Board's strict policy on rape and sexual violence which states that 'Where the portrayal eroticises or endorses sexual assault, the Board is likely to require cuts at any classification level'. Furthermore, in common with a number of Italian films of the same period, the scenes of cruelty to animals were clearly unsimulated and deliberately orchestrated by the filmmakers.UK lawprohibits the public exhibition of cinema films if animals were cruelly mistreated during their making and the BBFC applies this test also to videos and DVDs. Cannibal Holocaust, OFLC decision". Office of Film and Literature Classification, New Zealand. Archived from the original on 7 May 2008 . Retrieved 27 January 2008. Now if you are an animal lover - why are you here? Believe me you don't want to see this! You won't even mind for why animals were abused in this. Mostly the animals killed here (yes they actually did that!), were for food. So while especially the scene with the shelled "friend" seems like torture, it is not something that is not happening to other animals most of us eat daily.a b Gyory, Michel (2000), Making and Distributing Films in Europe: The Problem of Nationality, European Audiovisual Observatory Cannibal Holocaustwas not formally submitted to the BBFC until 2001, largely because its reputation as a 'video nasty' and its long history of prosecutions for obscenity seemed to preclude the issuing of a BBFC certificate. All of the animal killings in Cannibal Holocaust are pretty tough to get through but this is by far the worst. A scene so horrific it has to be seen to be believed. The turtle scene in Cannibal Holocaust will linger in your mind long after it is over. Banned in fifty countries, and name one of the most controversial movie of all time by EW, Ruggero Deadato’s Cannibal Holocaust is truly an exercise in depravity.
