About this deal

For those living with non-memory led dementias, moving through a space can be a challenging experience, and Charlie Hawkes’s design responds to this with a simple layout and bold shapes. Rammed earth floors, hoggin paths, gabion walls topped with logged sections, and many textural mulches (sand, brush, wood, leaf mould) all provide useful habitats, while dead wood – a big trend at this year’s show – appears in tree form as well as broken up into sculptural talking points. Streams and pools add another layer of insect-friendly features.

Chelsea regulars will be familiar with the stand of clematis specialist Raymond Evison, who has the largest judged exhibit in the Pavilion. This year, he will be showing some of his stunning climbers on handmade arches, allowing visitors to walk through the exhibit and get up close to some of his 2,200 clematis plants, which will include nearly 40 different varieties bred by Evison at his Guernsey nursery. He will also launch a new variety at the show, C Tumaini – a free-flowering vivid mauve clematis named after the Guernsey-based charity that supports orphans in Tanzania.
