About this deal

The EarFun Air's buds are not exactly small, but they're still comfortable. (Image credit: TechRadar) EarFun Air review: design and features

EarFun Air true wireless earbuds review - The Gadgeteer EarFun Air true wireless earbuds review - The Gadgeteer

EarFun estimates the battery life to be roughly 6 hours, with an extra 24 hours in the battery case. That's a little better than average for the true wireless field, and impressive considering the price, but remember that your results will vary with your volume levels. The charging case uses USB-C, and can also charge wirelessly on a Qi pad. Keep in mind that, the earbuds come with IPX5 water-resistant, but the case does not. So be careful, keep the case away from a pool of water. Another thing important, please make dry earbuds before put in the charging case. If the wet earbuds might cause a short circuit and damage the product during charging. Transparent mode At just about any volume I set the earbuds too, they kept the same sound quality. That’s including putting the volume at max. I didn’t notice any distortion or muffledness. As if that wasn't enough, these are some of the most secure and comfortable buds we've tested (especially for smaller ears) with a solid build quality – they're 37% lighter and 38% smaller than the top-tier WF-1000XM4 buds from Sony, too. The mic offers average intelligibility. Using the Voice Memos app on an iPhone 8, we could understand every word we recorded, but there was the typical Bluetooth distortion around the edges (perhaps a bit more than usual), and the mic sounded a little distant. It should be fine for phone calls when you have a decent signal, however, and this is par for the course with true wireless in-ear mics. ConclusionsThe EarFun Free 2 offers a good array of features that open them up for use for various purposes. Are you a keen gym and fitness fanatic? Along with their solid fit, the Free 2 offer IPX7 resistance, which means they’re fully waterproof and should happily survive any encounters with rain and sweat. The position that the EarFun Air earbuds sit in your ears will depend on what is most comfortable for you. Although I expected the little posts on the earbuds to point downward when I placed the earbuds in my ears, the above photos show how the EarFun Air earbuds fit most comfortably in my ears, with the little posts aimed forward and slightly downward. In this position, they felt really comfortable and stable in my ears, and in fact, even while sweating quite heavily during several vigorous workouts, the Earfun Air earbuds stayed in my ears. This is one of the very few times that I could recall this happening with any of the wireless earbuds I’ve reviewed. Kudos to Earfun for nailing this.

There's no way of tweaking anything in their sound balance, as there's no app support here. If you like to adjust your music, you'll have to use whatever EQ your music player might include (if at all). Do you intend to workout with your earbuds? If so, you'll need buds that will stay put, so look out for interchangeable eartips and fins to hold them in place. When it comes to playtime, the EarFun Air Pro does it great. They claim 7 hours ANC on and 9 hours ANC off for one charge on earbuds. By testing, it does very closely to their specs. Besides, you can get up to 32 hours with a charging case. What I like

Just keep an eye on volume with the EarFun Air. Crank it up too high and things turn distorted – but it's not good for your ears anyhow. Fans of the original Earfun Air will have no complaints about the updated model’s sound. Also, both earpieces feel very similar when worn; the driver housing is virtually identical in shape despite the new stems, extra mic and larger drivers inside. The bottom of each Air TWS earbuds has two gold connector plates that work with the case to charge up the earbuds. There’s also another noise-canceling microphone that’s placed in between the two gold charging plates.

The design of the EarFun Free 2 carries over from the original, which means they’re a thoroughly plastic affair. At this asking price that isn’t an unexpected development. The lid is used magnetic simply to open and close tightly. You can open the lid with only one hand. The case will automatically pair to the lasted devices when opening the lid. To test the Earfun Air’s low-end reach, we play Stormzy’s Big Michael, and the bass is enthusiastic, energetic and accurate. While the dynamic build is marginally less pronounced than through our control headphones, the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1, the latter set is almost twice as expensive. And remember, those in-ears don’t feature wearer detection and aren’t water-resistant. Battery life is seven hours per earbud and 30 hours in total with the case. There’s fast-charging support (10 minutes gives two hours) and compatibility with wireless charging plates, too. With voice assistant control possible, the Free 2’s feature set is robust for the price that EarFun is asking. Sound quality
