About this deal

Thank you for getting in touch with your enquiry. This could just be the last of the moisture coming to the surface. A piece of wood this size will take a long time to dry out naturally and if kiln dried may have needed longer than it originally got. If you wipe over the surface with a Barrettine Mould and Mildew Spray to remove the current growth. And then you could look at treating with a wood preservative suitable for interior use which will help to prevent mould and fungi from re developing. Button Polish is light brown in colour and is ideal for use on light woods such as elm and light mahogany. Clear wax polish is the one exception to the above… If a clear wax polish is applied to bare oak (or just about any other wood for that matter) then the colour is kept very natural indeed, it’s just a question of whether a wax polish is going to be durable enough. Internal doors, for example, are considered, by most people, to be ideal for finishing with wax, whereas a floor will look nice once waxed but regular maintenance is required, so most people don’t opt for wax for this reason. After one session is done, examine your piece under a light and see if there's any scratches or uneven shellac build ups. To fix the unevenness, take a 800 grit wet-and-dry sand paper, sand the surface with soap water. You should be able to see that all the high spots are sanded and eventually the surface is flat. French oak is very durable and can take on many different looks due to its finish. With its gorgeous, natural appearance, French oak flooring can perfectly complement any room or space. This guide will help you choose, install, and maintain your floor so you can enjoy your aged French oak wood flooring for years to come.

Dulux Woodsheen Varnish - The Range

Its a bit of a catch 22 you have there as I can not advice treating the wood unless it has dried out but you need to apply treatment to protect the wood from moisture. When choosing the perfect flooring for your home, nothing can compare to the look, feel, and luxury of genuine French oak hardwood. French oak hardwood flooring is popular due to its vintage, walked-on appearance, which lends itself to many room layouts and designs. If oak is being oiled it is a good idea to sand it with sandpaper that is no finer than 150 grit. The reason for this is that the pores of the wood are more open thus allowing the oil to sink into the wood better. Better absorption equals greater protection. A new batch of shellac can be used for 3 months. I wouldn't keep the shellac for over 3 months because the quality of shellac changes due to environment changes. After you charge the finishing pad and it is ready to be used, you can start the french polishing; finally!

Once most or all of the previous product is gone you are able to sand the wood. How much will depend on the condition of the wood, but as a guide you can start at 80 grit and work up to 120 – 150 grit. You will find the natural colour of the wood is far less orange in appearance and from there you can start to consider your options for a natural finish and Oils are very good for a natural look and feel. It has been allowed to grow slowly (unlike American Oak for example) to maximise density, strength and other natural performance characteristics.Firstly, let’s look at exactly what French oak hardwood flooring is, and the reasons it’s such a wise choice for homeowners. If you're a regular Superdrug shopper, you can now earn more freebies and discounts under its Health & Beautycard loyalty scheme, as the retailer has launched new 'VIP Rewards' as part of it. When this happens some or all of the oil may have dried in the surface and this will offer little protection and is probably why it is marking so easily. Unfortunately the only way to resolve this will be to remove the current oil and re sand to a 120 – 150 grit, to open up the grain, wipe over with Methylated spirits and re apply the oil.

Don’t imagine for a minute that this lovely flooring material comes in a limited range of finishes. Its quality of grain makes it a great base for sanding to bring out its unique characteristics. Then, various stains and varnishes can be applied to make highly individual wood floor planks. With new oak tannins are an inevitable issue and if you take the time to wipe over the wood with Methylated spirits first, this can pull out some of the surface tannins and reduce staining. If you do this before application of the preserver, it will not stop or prevent the tannins from coming out, and this will mostly occur with damp, cooler weather, but it will help reduce initial leaching.Gently move the finishing pad across the surface with small circular motions or figure 8 motions. Remember that once you start polishing, never stop at mid point. If the shellac is running out, move your finishing pad toward the edge of your wood in circular motion as well. Make sure to sand between each session in early stages, so the shellac builds up evenly. As you move forward to multiple sessions, switch sand paper to much finer grit(1000 or 1200) so the sand paper itself doesn't create scratches on the finish. Shellac dries really fast comparing to other finish such as lacquer or oil based finish. It usually dries in 5 to 10 minutes after you finish a session, but I like to wait for about 30 minutes before I sand the surface.
