About this deal

Rather than ramping up the legal kill, Wielgus prescribes limiting the take to the cougars’ natural rate of increase, around 14 percent annually. The state of Washington recently adopted such a policy. Given the widespread approval this strategy has received from wildlife biologists, it may set the standard for hunting of cougars—and perhaps other major predators—making it easier for them to coexist with people. Later at home, we second-guessed every decision made during his cancer journey. This gentle giant who never had a bad day (even in the aftermath of amputation), always made us smile during awful times. Karma and Shadow-Pup searched for their hero, the leader of the three furry stooges. Our three-year-old baby-dog fought and defeated osteosarcoma, so how could another cancer take him from us? Not our Bravo! I believe it took about 2 hours or so before he made his presence known to us…We first felt something appear at the door, then the feeling grew stronger as it got closer, it walked up the steps towards us and we could hear the sound of the steps creaking like a cat walking up the stairs.”

I found a cat crouching over my poor dog’s body, muttering and crying. The cat was a stranger, one I’d never seen before or since. I like to think that this eerie cat visitor arrived to pay feline respects at his passing. He’d always loved cats. It certainly couldn’t be my beloved dog’s spirit being hosted within this feline visitor. Or could it? Oscar the cat, a resident of Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Providence, Rhode Island, had an uncanny ability to predict which patient will soon die. Adopted as a kitten, he remained standoffish as an adult cat—until an individual neared the end of life. Then he’d scratch at the door and demand to be in the room, hop up on the bed beside the patient to sit vigil with them until they die. Others will report feeling their cat on a bed or couch, the way you’d feel anything that jumps up or sits down on one while you’re also sitting on it.One example of this is, a cat names Oscar who lives in a nursing home in Rhode Island. Oscar is known for predicting a patient’s death, and will climb onto the dying patient’s bed and stay with them until they die. Sometimes, Oscar will stay with the patient the day before death, or even a few hours beforehand. Oscar’s behavior sometimes helped notify the staff of a dying patient, and even proved the staff’s predictions to be wrong at times. You can look at this situation one of two ways. It could be absolutely horrifying and you will spend all of your time researching ways to remove the animal spirit from your house or you could accept the fact that you have a pet ghost. A main reason I continued to be skeptical is that when my first and only dog died, I wanted so badly to see her - I felt like it was my fault she died. She was still pretty young when she started having seizures, and the medication she was on put her in a kind of blank depression. About a year later she had a stroke of sorts but I didn't have a way to get her to the vet until my mom came home some hours later, and she died in the car on the way there. I have never felt so guilty about a pet's death, or so responsible. But as much as I tried to see her, tried to find her outside running and playing or inside the kitchen protecting me when I was alone at night, I felt empty instead. I guess it was kind of a blow after the visit from my cats.

Is having a pet ghost such a bad thing? As long as they aren’t violent and just want to take up space in their own dimension, we say… let them live their non-lives. But what of the other pets who also detect the invisible cat’s or chase a transparent cat as she runs through a room only to disappear into a wall? Sometimes there’s also photographic proof that points to a kitty haunting a residence or person. More recent examples abound and include pictures and videos posted on the Internet. For example, one family admired and took pictures of a neighbor’s flowers and captured the image of a cat in the window—only the family doesn’t have a cat, so just who was the ghostly feline and (perhaps more importantly) why did the cat allow him/herself to be photographed?

Do I Want A Pet Ghost?

He looked at me, nodded his head and disapeared and since that time, I have not had an encounter with him. The day after his death, when his slurpy-kiss across my face woke me, I reflexively reached out my hand to smooth his sweet face. He leaned against my palm. Warm. Real. Karma-Kat watched on the other side of the pillow as his tail thumped and shook the bed. He had all four legs, and a happy, satisfied grin–and then he disappeared. I like to think he knew I needed his reassurance. Our next symptom of a feline haunting: unexplained noises and the feeling of an actual physical presence.

Cats (and dogs) have the physical ability to see certain wavelengths and color spectrums that people cannot. Perhaps this “remnant” of the dearly departed remains behind—or in fact, the spirit portion remains visible for felines as well as ultrasonic sound communication.Do you randomly feel like you are being touched? A purr across your leg? Don’t dismiss these small feelings. If people are faithful enough within their religions, for example, to believe in something they cannot see, then it is not so much of a stretch to have faith in what we perceive to be supernatural. I have had more real expereinces with what I cannot see [read: hauntings] than I have with God. I believe there is room on our planet for both, eventhough neither can be documented. Going further, some would even claim they can sense “being watched” without any line of sight at all. A kind of sixth sense. This is a controversial idea, verging on extrasensory perception. A 1913 study titled “’The Feeling Of Being Stared At’ – Experimental” revealed that of 146 Stanford University students who filled out a questionnaire, 68% reported having the feeling of being watched at one point or another, “with the conviction that the feeling can be (more or less) relied upon.” A later questionnaire resulted in 86% of students sharing that same belief. Ghost cats aren’t always so forward. Sometimes, it’s just that disembodied meowing, as Redditor shinkikker experienced several years ago. She’d been sitting on the couch with her cat, Cleo, in an otherwise empty house when she heard a very distinct meow, one that reminded her of another cat, her childhood pet that had recently passed away.

Thanks for sharing your story, Lily. Not sure what your beliefs are that won't allow you to open your mind, but let me just say this: the world is big and we understand, even in this modern age, very little of it. To think that we have total knowledge of our planet in 2007 is as arrogant and short-sighted a notion today as it would have been in 1000 BC. There is evidence of things occurring here that are unexplainable with contemporary modes of scientific instrumentation. Perhaps someday we'll be able to more aptly explain these things we conveniently label "ghosts," but for now, raw experience and "faith" are all we have. Anyway...I LOVED him... LOVED him... Even cried when I had to say goodbye an I am the type who NEVER cries but I couldn't help it... But sometimes I will feel like he's still around... I never 'see' him but I feel the weight of him beside me or 'jumpping' off the couch... My friend was over several times... I never told her about what I was thinking about him being there... Untill she asked me if I felt something feeling like it just sat down next to us...

I'm thinking it was just a dream from being scared by the movie? But then why do I remember opening the door and feeling the floor on my feet when I investigated? My second story, that convinces me more than this first: I’m 69, and never had ghost cat visitations until sometime after my cat Chief passed away in 2013. Starting about 2015, for a few years, the following things would happen regularly: I would feel a cat jump on the bed, but no cat there. I would feel a cat lay up against my legs, but no cat there. I would feel a cat walk across my ankles on the bed, but no cat there. The strangest event was when I felt a cat swat the hell out of my thigh, but when I immediately looked, my cat Rougarou was positioned calmly too far away to have swatted me. However, it is required to progress through this dialogue upon feeding the ghost cat to obtain the pet and see the dialogue: "The ghostly sole seems to dislodge the cat's dinner from last night, as he chokes up a ghostly rat."
