About this deal

Snakes cannot chew, so they must swallow their food whole. They are able to stretch their mouths very wide because they have a very flexible lower jaw. Snakes can eat other animals that are 75%–100% bigger than their own bodies. [1] The shortest known snake is the thread snake. It is about 4 inches long and lives on the island of Barbados in the Caribbean. It is said to be as “thin as spaghetti” and it feeds primarily on termites and larvae. [1] After this, Perseus gave Medusa’s head to his benefactor Athena, as a votive gift. The goddess set it on Zeus’ aegis (which she also carried) as the Gorgoneion. She also collected some of the remaining blood and gave most of it to Asclepius, who used the blood from Medusa’s left side to take people’s lives and the blood from her right side to raise people from the dead. The rest of Medusa’s blood – a vial containing two drops – Athena gave to her adopted son, Erichthonius; Euripides says that one of the drops was a cure-all, and the other one a deadly poison. Medusa's visage has since been adopted by many women as a symbol of female rage; one of the first publications to express this idea was a feminist journal called Women: A Journal of Liberation in their issue one, volume six for 1978. The cover featured the image of the Gorgon Medusa by Froggi Lupton, which the editors on the inside cover explained "can be a map to guide us through our terrors, through the depths of our anger into the sources of our power as women." [26] As mentioned above, some drain snakes are made for breaking through clogs, while others are made for grabbing clogs and pulling them out of the drain. These two different functions are achieved with the use of specialized drain snake heads. Cutting heads are made to cut through solid clogs with sharp blades and barbs. Professionals frequently use cutting heads on heavy-duty electric drain augers.Saito, Y; Inoue, I; Hayashi, F; Itagaki, H (1987). "A hairworm, Gordius sp., vomited by a domestic cat". Nihon Juigaku Zasshi. The Japanese Journal of Veterinary Science. 49 (6): 1035–7. doi: 10.1292/jvms1939.49.1035. PMID 3430914. The longest snake ever recorded is the reticulated python. It can reach over 33 feet long, which is big enough to swallow a pig, a deer, or even a person. [1] Unfortunately, chemical drain cleaners are harsh on your pipes (and body) and we don’t recommend them. They can actually cause more damage that can lead to corrosion, leaks, and costly water damage. How to Clean Hair Out of Your Shower Drain

But if you have long hair (or live with people who have long hair), then you know what a pain it is to have your luxe haircare routine result in a drain that’s clogged to oblivion with hair. Add in things like dirt, body wash, shaving cream, and other product runoff, and it’s easy to find yourself dealing with a gross shower situation. But fear not, we’re here to save the day/your plumbing bill with the most game-changing invention: shower drain hair catchers. Greek vases, cups, and related terracotta objects sometimes included a decorative gorgoneion as well. In some cases it was painted at the bottom of a drinking vessel ( 14.136 ) and served to surprise the drinker as he emptied his cup. Pieces from the seventh and sixth centuries B.C. are decorated with monstrous gorgoneia that can take up the entire surface ( 31.11.4 ), similar to those on contemporary antefixes. The circular shape of many of these ceramics offers a particularly appropriate space to depict the rotund face of the Archaic Gorgon; it is outrageous, with oversized features that combine the feminine (curled hair and earrings) with the masculine (beard). The trend of using Medusa’s face to decorate ceramics continued into the Hellenistic period (ca. 323–31 B.C.). She is present as the central decoration on many vases ( 06.1021.246a,b ), as well as a repetitive ornamental motif . Just as in architecture, these late fourth- and third-century B.C. Gorgons evolve from the grotesque to the feminine but retain their specific frontal quality. The fifth century B.C. saw the emergence of a new artistic emphasis on the ideal form. Perfection and beauty became the standards of this new Classical style, and Medusa, despite her role as a monster, was not exempt. Most snakes are not harmful to humans and they help balance the ecosystem by keeping the population of rats, mice, and birds under control. [19]

Farm boys have more fun than city boys. Every farm boy has watched the "hair snakes" sometimes found wriggling in drinking troughs for horses and cattle, or in puddles on a country road. They and their fathers will argue obstinately that these are hairs, from a horse's mane or tail, that turned into snakes. Phooie.

Snakes kill over 40,000 people a year—though, with unreported incidents, the total may be over 100,000. About half of these deaths are in India. [16]

The most rare and endangered snake is the St. Lucia racer. There are only 18 to 100 of these snakes left. [19]

Ovid, Metamorphoses 4.798: "the Sovereign of the Sea attained her love in chaste Minerva's temple" ( Brookes More translation) or "in Minerva’s temple Neptune, lord of the Ocean, ravished her" ( Frank Justus Miller translation, as revised by G. P. Goold) Whether Ovid means that Medusa was a willing participant is unclear. Hard, p. 61, says she was "seduced"; Grimal, s.v. Gorgons, p. 174, says she was "ravished"; Tripp, s.v. Medusa, p. 363 says she "yielded". In the original Latin text, Ovid uses the verb "vitiasse" which is translated to mean "violate" or "corrupt" line 798.
