About this deal

Make your own Jamaican jerk seasoning spice blend at home with this easy recipe, filled with loads of piquant and aromatic spices. There really is no good direct substitute for jerk seasoning. If you are unable to find a Jamaican or Caribbean jerk blend at your local grocery store, your best bet is to make it yourself using this recipe. Does anybody know where the "green olive pepper" variety of pimento comes from? Since they are traditionally served in olives, my best guess is the Mediterranean -- Turkey, Greece, possibly Italy. What do you guys think? When I want jerk spice, I want some spice! With these flavors, it can work with any protein of your preference. Tofu, anyone? Why not? It also works on vegetables, like grilled corn on the cob. Vegetables love a good spice rub. The nice thing about making your own pimento dips and spreads is that you can add or leave out whatever you like.

Caribbean Seasoning Peppers are flowering plants and members of the Solanaceae family. They are tropical plants and favor warm temperatures, well-drained soil, and thrive in full sunlight. Allspice is one of the most important ingredients of Jamaican Cuisine. Under the name pimento, it is used in Jamaican jerk seasoning, and traditionally its wood was used to smoke jerk in Jamaica. In the West Indies, an allspice liqueur is produced under the name " pimento dram". In Mexican cuisine, it is used in many dishes. [6] First, to grow Seasoning peppers, sow the seeds in a well-drained potting mix. They should germinate within about 2 weeks in temperatures ranging from 24 to 30°C.

However, that pungent flavour becomes quite mild and more balanced once it is being used in cooking. Pimientos can have various colors including yellow, green, red, and maroon. Some are green when immature and turn red when they reach maturity. [1]

a b Nancy Gaifyllia. "About.com Greek Food – Allspice". Archived from the original on 7 July 2011 . Retrieved 26 June 2011. Pimento Peppers vary considerably in shape, from short and round to long and thin. Most varieties closely resemble their much hotter relatives, such as the Jamaican Scotch Bonnet. Sometimes, the only way to tell them apart is to taste them. Allspice, also known as Jamaica pepper, myrtle pepper, pimenta, or pimento, [a] is the dried unripe berry of Pimenta dioica, a midcanopy tree native to the Greater Antilles, southern Mexico, and Central America, now cultivated in many warm parts of the world. [3] The name allspice was coined as early as 1621 by the English, who valued it as a spice that combined the flavours of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. [4] However, it doesn't contain shado beni, instead bouillon cubes form part of their version of the recipe. How to use this seasoningSome of the ingredients include - shado beni, cilantro, parsley, celery, pimento, bell peppers, onion, scallion, garlic thyme, Spanish thyme and pimento peppers (not to be mistake for Jamaican pimento berries) just to name a few. Although some people compare it to cilantro (coriander) they are not the same. Chadon beni has a more intense, pungent flavour/taste that is long lasting.
