About this deal

But if the title doesn’t sound familiar, that’s because the book isn’t anywhere near shelves: according to Deadline, it was just last week that Knopf just bought the rights to publish it in North America.

Elsewhere (Zevin novel) - Wikipedia

The living (her family and friends) grieve her death while Liz grieves the life that has been taken from her. In the summer after graduation, Autumn and Finny reconnect and are finally ready to be more than friends. incredible, like The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon meets The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer. Although she initially believes she doesn’t have the strength to swim back to the top, she eventually manages to do so when she sees what she believes to be her old and treasured pocket watch shining far above her.

I loved Elsewhere it kept me guessing, I could relate to Liz Hall so much, except for the whole death part, of course. The sleeping girl, who is near Liz's own age, wears a white nightgown and has long dark hair arranged in a thatch of intricately beaded braids. Pip has known and liked Sal since childhood; he’d supported her when she was being bullied in middle school.

Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin | Goodreads

Zevin’s smooth, omniscient third-person narration and matter-of-fact presentation of her imagined world carries readers along, while her deft, understated character development allows them to get to know her characters slowly and naturally. Zevin probes at many of the themes that energize video games as a medium: their narrative depth, their therapeutic value, their casual violence, their toxic industry. She’s looking forward to getting her license, enjoying helping her best friend plan for the prom and anticipating a long, full life. With an intriguing and well-developed premise, thoughtful characterization, and refreshing style, Zevin's poignant novel rewards readers with a view of death that celebrates the rich complexities of being alive.

Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin | Waterstones

the book that started my lifelong love of Beautifully Written And Unique Young Adult Magical Realism. Baking gingerbread men, or any cooking for that matter, is probably close to suicide for a snowman, Liz thinks. It is the imaginary world of a game, a world Zevin describes with the addict's ardour, which forms a universe even the sturdiest parent or antediluvian book-lover will be enticed into. It is usually warm with a breeze, the sun and the stars shine brightly, and the beaches are marvelous. And then it switches to Lizzy, the main character of the book, a 15-year-old girl who has recently died after a bicycle accident. She dies in a hit-and-run accident not long before her 16th birthday; she was biking to the mall to help her friend Zooey choose a prom dress when a taxi driver (Amadou Bonamy) accidentally struck her. The book is about coming to terms with your death, about enjoying your life no matter what strange form it is in.
