The toy was designed by engineers at Tiger electronics, which was known at the time for creating other robotic toy pets, including Furby, Poo-Chi, and Giga Pets. Butterscotch Pony features a total of eleven sensors throughout its body, including two microphones on either side of the chest, a light sensor between the eyes, a weight/pressure sensor on the back, and touch sensors on the left and right hindquarters, mouth, muzzle, left and right shoulders, and breast. You can feed her with the pretend carrot – if she’s hungry, she’ll open her mouth, if not she’ll shake her head. If the user pats the hindquarter touch sensors while sitting on the toy, it enters "Riding Mode" and makes walking sounds while moving its head back and forth. The toys from this era have large heads and eyes, softer fur, and often have less realistic color palettes.
