There are striking spreads in the book, for example the city consuming the forest, the children marching, placards in hands and the resolution images showing us what the world could be like if we all acted to save it. This is a gorgeous, well written book and Zoë Tucker does a very good job of depicting Greta and what she's trying to do.Using mostly warm hues, Persico places the towering giants and the crowds of sign-wielding, ankle-high protesters in mistily atmospheric settings that culminate in a double-page –spread “peaceable kingdom” scene. The book generated a fantastic discussion about climate change, what we can do and what needs to be done. Excellent story about Greta Thunberg and her commitment to bringing forward the serious issue of climate change.

Although this story has a happy ending, the notes at the end of the book explain to readers that Greta in the real world needs your help. Yes, it's still a worthy book – with barely more than two paragraphs a spread at times, its attractive artwork conveys the story expertly, and the moral is still the same – but I felt this was a cashing-in exercise. The Giants are portrayed as the destructors of the forest, taking more and more trees in their greed and desire to build more and more.Until the day a problem boy does climb that high, pelting the kids with acorns and then getting stuck. She starts by herself, but is soon joined by others, until there are so many that their complaints can no longer be ignored. She shows us not only the importance of protecting the environment but also the power of the individual, even a child, to make a difference. He enjoyed the story - he was so pleased that the giants made a new forest and started to look after the planet again. This book is the perfect story to introduce your child to the effects of climate change and is a motivating narrative to children who are already aware of what is going on.

Greta and the Giants is a delightful children's book that's filled with vivid illustrations and a very empowering message. Greta and the Giants is a sensitively written and beautifully illustrated story for young readers by Zoë Tucker and Zoe Persico. Greta and the Giants is a children's picture book inspired by Greta Thunberg (but not authorized, licensed, or approved by her, per the publication information at the back). The book deals with several themes, the power of solidarity, the importance of taking care of the environment, and the forest's animals.

The text refers to the behaviour of the Giants after Greta confronts them, but the images look more like the children characters who are doing the protesting. It's a sweet, attractive book that could serve as a catalyst to important discussions with the children in your life, but I cannot imagine would be welcomed by anyone who is not friendly to the environmental movement. The book is also very cute with lovely illustrations and and a nice age appropriate way to make young children aware of climate issues.

In the background are two silhouetted figures, could these be the Giants mentioned in the books title? Using giants as the big bad adults, Greta stands up to them, and explains that they are destroying the planet. The three circular vignettes towards the end of the story are rather ambiguous despite the text underneath them. Children and grown-ups alike will be drawn in by the large size, beautiful illustrations, and powerful message. With themes of compassion, courage, and conflict resolution, this Greta and the Giants picture book by Zoë Tucker is a favorite in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms.
