About this deal

Still it's a nice little list of small changes you can easily make to your life and they're all suggestions rather than commandments. Mosley avoids getting into the weeds but for those inclined, there are links at the end to dig deeper. This is a quick read, perhaps a book readers will refer back to: interesting, fascinating, and informative. I’ve even been known to dance around the living room, so I’m not sure this book has really taught me anything.

In this episode, Pilates expert Professor Ruth Melo from the University of San Paulo reveals all about the benefits of Pilates on our cardiovascular endurance, core strength and healthy ageing. Mosley suggests in this book are what people already know about, where he succeeds is at offering good suggestions on how to incorporate them into our life with simple changese to our daily routine. We all want quick and easy ways to improve our health, but when it comes to diet, fitness and wellbeing it can be hard to separate the facts from the fads.So what if you were told that standing on one leg can have huge health benefits, a hot shower before bed can help lower your blood pressure, and eating chocolate is good for your heart?

Just like the podcast, he explains each idea, backing it up with science, and also with case studies from people who tried them. Based on the popular BBC podcast, Just One Thing, this book brings to life Dr Mosley's mission to find things you can introduce into your daily routine which will have a big impact on your mental and physical health. I now do wall press ups while I wait for the kettle to boil and stand on one leg while I cook my breakfast in the microwave. Load up on those leftovers - because it’s surprisingly easy to make your bowl of pasta better for you! It’s a low-impact, low-intensity exercise that can make you stronger, more flexible, and benefit your posture and balance. When we sit for prolonged periods, many of our body's functions go into sleep mode, including our metabolism! In fact before reading this book I’d already implemented a couple into my daily routine after all the indulgence over Christmas and New Year, without realising they were in the book, so that was a nice surprise!

I’d heard a couple of episodes from his podcast that this book is based on, and I thought they were really good ideas and very easy to implement. I'd highly recommend reading it and sense that, if I do engage in the simple activities suggested, I will actually result in being healthier and live longer with a better quality of life. This book is based on his podcast of the same name and essentially comprises a whole heap of simple, easy to include in daily life habits that have the potential to improve your health and wellbeing. Resistant starch is a healthy carb that can benefit your gut, reduce blood sugar spikes and lower your cancer risk.
