I felt like I only really saw them begin interacting at around the 40% mark, and that's what took me a bit to get into this book. Second chance + boy-obsessed heroes are one of my favorite tropes in Romance, and this book delivered both! The plot was off the walls which some people might not like but I personally loved that it was off the walls.

This British, possessive, dirty-talking murderer who cares for nothing was honestly such a sweetheart for Lenny only.The literal only reason this wasn't a five-star read was because it took a really long time for the romance in this book to actually pick up.

If you’re asking, am I giving up a lucrative career at its height just so I can spend my free time balls deep inside of a girl completely removed from this fucked industry, then yes. I am aware he was an anti-hero but that wasn’t really my issue I love a good baddie but Aidan just rubbed me the wrong way and he was so indecisive over his own intentions and for someone who had previously been plagued by a SA scandal he was surprisingly blasé now about crossing that particular line. Like one of the reasons they got together was for publicity, but I was expecting publicity stunts and more public outings. It doesn’t take away from the story I just felt like I couldn’t fully connect with Lenny because we weren’t let in to be able to. There was a lot of sex and smut and I wish there a little bit of more time for finding an emotional balance. It quickly became confusing and I had to reread passages several times to make sure I wasn’t the one misinterpreted the text. It wasn't a terrible read, it just missed some elements that I think would have really added to the experience. Her entire life has just been a cumulation of events she's forced to go to strapped to people she's required to interact with. The second one disappointed me, falling straight away from the original plot of what the monsters were. This can be read as a stand-alone, although it best be read after reading book one, Promises and Pomegranates.My issue with these books is that the couples are all hands off and not into each other until the very last minute of the books and then all of a sudden BAMTHEYREINLOVE. This is the second book in the Monsters and Muses series and this book is 🔥 Riley and Aiden have one night together and after that night both their lives are ruined. The story is certainly infused with the epic tonal quality of its classic inspiration, but the pace was a bit slow for me, with the exposition not quite capturing me at first. This book made me remember why I LOVE the fake dating trope soooo much, the possessiveness and tension was amazing, I don’t often get the feeling of wanting to reread a book right after I finish it but after finishing this I already want to re start it 😭.
