Notes of rich cherry and red fruit enveloped in velvety dark chocolate makes it a perfect accompaniment to most desserts such as rich chocolate fondants and fruit filled tarts. In Religious ceremonies, hundreds of thousands of people a year were sacrificed and to be brave enough to put yourself forward for this was considered an honour. I was curious as to how this would taste as it sounded like the perfect pairing but was unsure how it worked as a wine. The bottle comes in a beautiful box and is suitable for someone who loves dessert wine as a present.It’s currently being sold in Morrisons, with the supermarket describing it as tasting like “Christmas in a cup”. The red wine base is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes sourced from the wine growing region of La Mancha in central Spain. Their ancient wisdom and famous cacao infusions was the gateway to Rubis as they blended precious seeds with great care to create this indulgent and potent wine. It can also be used as a cooking ingredient and could be substituted for Port or Sherry in recipes – I can imagine it in a chocolate trifle of some sort.

As cacao was so precious it was also used as a currency so was not immune to forgery attempts using avocado stones and wax. Rubis can be served at either room temperature or chilled over ice for that ultimate chocolate experience. Its quite strong if youre not used to drinking much like me, I had a small shot of it and I already feel like I cant walk haha. Cacao was not easy to source near Court as it grew in the south amongst the Mayan lowlands and because of this, the drink was usually served to people of high society standing such as Nobles or Warriors and presented at the end of Banquets. Rubis Chocolate Wine an indulgent blend of fortified tempranillo wine and premium chocolate flavour. The Grape spirit and juice are then blended with premium dark chocolate to create the smooth silky red wine liqueur that is Rubis.

Our expert wine makers have skilfully blended a superb S panishT empranillo red wine and premium chocolate flavour , to create a luxuriously indulgent after-dinner treat. The texture is similar to a Port wine, it is not at all gloopy or viscous, and has a sweet, velvety finish. All in all, an unusual drink, but a good balance of wine and chocolate, neither really dominates the other.
