About this deal

You will want to make sure logs are cut to a proper size, so they are not sticking out the top or smothering the air flow. For as simple as the design of the Solo Stove Campfire portable camp stove is, I was blown away by how well it performed. If you do plan on cooking with it, he recommends choosing a dedicated set of cookware to use over the fire because the bottom will get completely covered in hard-to-remove soot. I plan on bringing a grill top for our next trip to set on it and see if we can cook some sausages or hobo meals. Overall, this stove is slightly bigger than other camp stoves, so it wouldn’t be the winner for backpacking.

In simpler words, the Campfire works as a gas burner, as in the final combustion stage, it really burns gas.

Bigger, more robust models include Solo Stove Bonfire, Yukon, and Ranger, all designed for larger car or RV camping trips. Not only is the spark shield helpful to keep sparks contained in a boondocking setting that may have more grasses/trees around, but I've also heard that people have set their cast iron pans on it to cook!

These days, she visits artist residencies around the world and has lived in Amsterdam, Australia, and now Brooklyn, NY. And with kids, we especially like fire pits that are raised up more than fire rings we just make ourselves with rocks since they tend to be harder for the kids to see when they’re running around camp. Plus, the Campfire has an additional cooking ring to help direct the flames while holding a pot or skillet. Solo Stove offers two other camping stove options that would be a better fit for you: the Lite and Titan. While it’s not as convenient as a propane stove, there’s something nostalgic about cooking over an open fire.

With just the sticks and pinecones we found around our campsite we were able to get a blazing hot, virtually smokeless campfire going quickly. The larger pot is perfect for soups and stews while the smaller is nice for meats, veggies, eggs, and things like that. Now I'm not saying that is encouraged by the company, but I know we love cooking over a fire and would enjoy a way to do so over the Bonfire!

And what about the question we all want to know like…can the Solo Stove Campfire really work as a campfire? It’s also effortless to clean up after enjoying a fire because you’re only left with a bit of white ash at the bottom. With this setup I brought 2 cups (470 ml) of water to a boil with an outdoor temperature of 74 deg F. The Campfire doesn’t have as many compatible accessories as the Lite and the Titan (like the alcohol burner or the windscreen).
