About this deal

It's more likely that you will hear the external environment than have others in your vicinity hear you though, with these ear pads not being the best at sealing sound both ways. The ThieAudio Ghost is an open-back, over-ear set of headphones whose design reminds me of a few Sennheiser sets.

Because we have smoothed edge in upper mids, yet presence is loud and clear and timbre isn't too thin, just not very textured. There is plenty of space within the soundstage, and there are out of head experiences to be had, it’s really easy to pinpoint musicians within the soundstage however the overall softer sound leads to a little more restricted headspace. Anyway, the Ghost is an openback set of headphones that uses a 40mm Sapphire dynamic driver (I don’t know what a Sapphire dynamic driver is, sorry) and at a glance, remind me of the Shure SRH1840.

Meaning I of course have heard (other transducers with) more authoritative playback, where here it’s faster and nimble…. These pads are best used for comfort—especially in a warm/humid environment—but can be more leaky than thicker, leather pads. The cable connectors do not hit your neck/shoulders either so the only other thing to note is that these are open-back in nature so it's best to experience the Ghost in a quiet environment.

The movement of the actual swivels are limited and once your onboard with this design, you wonder how and why it would be done any other way. Starting off at the subbass, there is some roll off and I find that this is noticeable in things like “ Chameleon” or other tracks/genres that have a large subbass presence. The foundation of the driver is a new diaphragm consisting of cermet (ceramic-metal composite) layered on a thermoplastic polymer film stabilizer. ThieAudio has been part of this journey too, with the V16 Divinity and Elixir being two of my preferred IEMs ever tested. Keeping with the times, the Monarch has undergone another revision to revamp its technical and tonal performance. I sort of have mixed feelings in general about the build, some things I think are very well done while others seem to have not had as much effort put into them.
