On the plus side, its soulmate D30 PRO has four DAC chips inside, providing an excellent channel separation and that works as a soundstage boost for the A30 PRO, nicely improving its layering and note positioning. The XLR is noticeably richer on most headphones, but on some IEM’s, I did note that the RCA connection was better. OK so AMP arrived, looks cool sounds great with headphones BUT as I understand balanced outs for power monitors is just a passthrough?This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, as there are only a few units that could drive the mighty Susvara. Sub-bass was missing in action and from a visceral and highly engaging headphone, Susvara became boring and slow. The back hosts two RCA inputs, two RCA outputs and the power connector, which resembles an XLR connector with five pins. Much of this has been due to offerings from Chinese firms, which Topping represents in an exemplary way. I was very surprised by its power output, as even on mid-gain it was capable of fully driving headphones as Hifiman HE1000SE, Kennerton Wodan and Erzetich Phobos planar-magnetic headphones.

Living in Glasgow, Scotland but born and raised near Milan, Italy, I got the passion for music listening as a legacy from my father and my grandfather. I think its more than a relevant offering today where more and more cans are being designed to run off of phones and as such they need less and less power, yet most amps on the market are providing tons of power for big cans, and honestly you can't plug headphones into DAC's and actually get quality output, leaving you with no real offerings. Of course, nobody can listen to music at that volume, it would damage the IEMs and my ear-drums in a split second if I would press play.The volume wheel on the right seems to be using an analog volume potentiometer (I’m betting on ALPS Blue Velvet). The D30 Pro has a front screen and a knob on the front which acts as a power button and a menu selector and a digital volume controller. The only value which is starkly different is output impedance, which is really high and indicate the amplifier may work better with high-impedance headphones. But the D30 moniker throws me for a loop given that volume knob and absolutely different design aesthetic.

Ten op-amps put in parallel are surely providing a nice voltage and current swing and that can be felt immediately after adding the A30 PRO in the chain.While I find the Singxer SA-1 a better amplifier when it comes to natural textures and treble rendition, I find the little A30 PRO a punchier amplifier that doesn’t have a problem sustaining longer bass notes, striving for a more engaging presentation. Yes, live music is still the best, but isn’t the point of our listening devices to mirror or make us remember those times at venues we hold close? A30 PRO rendered bells, cymbals and tambourines in a clean manner, I felt their metallic shimmering, there were playful and impactful but never bright in long listening sessions. The RCA outputs can be used in conjunction with powered speakers, but the Topping A30 does not support passive speakers – it is a headphone amp, after all! The A30Pro had no trouble driving this headphone with incredible power and authority with zero sign of strain or distortion.

Its younger sibling has a good, to almost great soundstage and this seems to be the biggest complaint I have with this unit. When you lower distortion to sub atomic levels and rise high its dynamic range, it would be natural experiencing a lightning-fast start and stop of the drivers, an exact timing and decay of the musical notes, that are coming right on time. I think the SH-9 sounds a little dryer and has a bit more top end emphasis but with it being slightly less expensive than the A30pro it certainly bears consideration. A30 PRO is really up there with the cleanest sounding units, easily on the same level with my own HPA4, with A90, Sparkos Labs Aries, SMSL SP400 and SH-9.Eilish’s song gave a thumping rendition of bass through this trio (mistyped as trip, which would have worked as well).
