It’s hard to imagine this opener – the purging, anthemic title track – being birthed in any other era. One thought sustained us – the certainty that adversity breeds creativity, and that from this darkness would come some of the best rock music ever made. On the scorching track, Lzzy kicks things off by proclaiming, "Tonight I'm going heavy metal," before launching into a grunge-inspired chorus and singing, "If you don't care, then I don't care! It’s Halestorm 101 and while it may not break new ground, you know exactly what to expect and Halestorm delivers.

That said, as it pertains to the Dolby Atmos surround sound mix, also on Apple Music, it isn’t as hard-hitting and rocking as the stereo mix and sounds a little muddy in places.Give or take a Floor Jansen, Lzzy Hale owns the best voice in modern rock – but even she’s never sounded quite this enflamed. While bands with strong vocalists sometimes sound as if they're competing against the guitars, in HALESTORM, the two are perfectly married, not clashing but instead working together, supporting one another. During the lockdown period, the band was forced to cease their customary schedule of frequent touring while finding ways to financially support their staff and crew.Meanwhile, while HALESTORM aren't known as a band that uses a lot of expletives, that's not the case on "Heavy MeNtal (F**k Yeah)" , which drops quite a few f-bombs. It’s as if the album was recorded for stereo and then mixed to the surround format as an afterthought.
