About this deal

The device or dongle you connected to has new features for USB-C that your PC (or phone) doesn’t support.

So you’ve got your cable and you’ve connected it up. You may well find that Windows has done the rest for you, and your monitor is now duplicating everything on the built-in screen. Select the Start button, then in the search box on the taskbar, type device manager and select Device Manager from the list of results. Usually, a task which should essentially be “plug this into this” becomes complex and time consuming. However, don’t let this dissuade you from accomplishing your monitor goal, just make sure you do plenty of research before buying a cable, and make sure it’s the one you need. At the end of the day, USB-C over DisplayPort offers a convenient alternative to many previous display interfaces. With DisplayPort 2.0 set to become more supported in consumer devices, using a USB-C cable rather than a specific DisplayPort cable will be a great, user-friendly addition.Make sure the device or dongle is connected to the USB-C port on your PC (or phone) that supports the correct Alternate Mode. For example, if you're connecting a Thunderbolt Alternate Mode device, make sure you connect to the USB-C port that supports Thunderbolt.

Hard drive retention: Hard drive retention is not available on models with a soldered hard drive, including XPS 9315 2in1, Chromebooks or Venue tablets, except the Venue 11 Pro. USB-C ultimately depends on whether your laptop supports USB-C Alt Mode with DisplayPort, and whether the monitor delivers enough power to charge your laptop. If your laptop has both of those capabilities, USB-C is a convenient choice. Now, you may be wondering, if USB-C is supposed to replace everything else, why it’s not even more common. The answer comes, once again, from manufacturers playing fast and loose with the standard. Generally a USB-C display is possible to work with a mini-DP to USB-C passive cable but you'll get only video, and possibly sound if the display has speakers or an output for speakers. Any built-in camera, USB ports, hand dryers, and towel dispensers will not work. They will need the power and/or data channels that USB-C has but mini-DP does not. And I also bought the following cable in the hopes that I could use it to connect to the monitor from my PC (using gtx 1080 -- it doesn't have type-c -- only display port and hdmi).Though it comes with two sets of HDMI and DisplayPort connections, you have to keep in mind that you can use just one connection from each set. This means you can either use an HDMI port or a Displayport to connect a monitor and not both. Nevertheless, both connections support 4K displays at 60Hz, and that’s a huge plus.
