About this deal

The writing is typical Nesbø, which, for those who have read some of his work, will know is steeped in symbolism and a deeper analysis of the emotional being. The latter is the kind of thing Hemingway might have knocked out on a particularly good day stood at his desk. After three years military service he attended business school and formed the band Di derre (‘Them There’).

Toda la construcción de El hombre celoso estuvo bien hecha, pero como dije, era predecible y eso le quitaba un poco de potencia al final. After all, you had just said you wanted to die, and had even given me a credible reason for saying it. When I finally convinced myself to tackle the second section—“Power”—my hopes went up again, though, because the lead story there—the dystopian “Rat Island”—had a very au courant feel, set in a world facing an epic pandemic. I haven’t actually read any of his books yet but I plan to read Nesbo’s Harry Hole or Mankell’s Wallander soon! And none of them ended the way I expected to them…they are filled with great twists that really keep you guessing the entire time as to where it is heading, no matter how long each story is.Have you read any of Henning Mankell’s books and, if so, do you recommend Nesbo over Mankell or vice-versa? Without revealing any spoilers, let's just say that Nesbo takes a rather dim view of humanity and their motivations. Again, I enjoyed the first two, The Bat and Cockroaches (if somewhat put off by the titles), but found the the third, The Redbreast, hard to follow.

In "Trash" we have an angry and jealous bin lorry driver who really cleans up after himself and "The Confession" has a particularly delicious Twist! Some of those plotlines take several books to come to a conclusion, and characters continue from book to book, changing over time. Jealousy hides behind a thirst for justice, drives you crazy, poisons your life and changes it for the better only if you can literally and figuratively remove your opponent. The characters are complex, the setting (a Greek island) unusual for Nesbo, and the plot’s strands mingle past and present to turn the story into a meditation on guilt and second chances that’s fascinating. In the very last paragraph of the story, we picture a stray dog running at a certain direction, having smelled something that is not revealed to us.
