About this deal

She's stuck at Grandad's with her annoyingly nerdy brother Joel for a whole week while her parents swan off to the Arctic.

I absolutely adored the subtle Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit nods scattered throughout the book specially the “second breakfast”.Whilst trying to find a mobile phone signal, Frankie finds her way into the attic and stumbles across some old maps and books. Things take a turn for the worse when Grandad gets kidnapped by gnoblins (no, that is not spelt incorrectly) forcing Frankie to embark on a rescue mission across a magical realm filled with strange creatures, dangerous enemies and – worst of all – absolutely no WiFi. From the incredible imagination of Chris Smith - bestselling author and now a major new solo talent - comes an extraordinary accidental adventure for fans of Cressida Cowell and Pixar's Onward . She knows that there is nothing more important in life than being connected to your friends with WiFi and a smartphone, and she knows that little brothers who talk about orcs and goblins all the time are totally lame.

Chris Smith has wanted to be an author ever since he was eight and won a competition by writing story about a baby dinosaur who loved biscuits. I particularly enjoyed Mrs Archer’s obsession with noodle pots and her favourite flavour ‘Mumbai Madman’. Our list includes some of the world’s favourite authors, illustrators and licensed brands, such as Eric Carle, Helen Oxenbury, Nadia Shireen, The Snowman, Doctor Who, Roald Dahl, Tom Fletcher, Jeff Kinney, Rick Riordan, Robin Stevens, and Jacqueline Wilson to name but a few.The content and ambition of the show remains the same: to give every pupil the opportunity to engage with authors and illustrators in their own classroom using the power of the internet.

She provides a running commentary in the form of snide comments and scornful remarks that remind readers just how silly all this fantasy stuff is. The relationship between Frankie and her geeky younger brother Joel is drawn in a believable way, I believed in Frankie as being someone into YouTube and modern life and I liked the humour that peppers the text (which Anderson's illustrations really help to draw out). I couldn’t find the name of the cover artist but I think it might have also been Kenneth Anderson, going off the similarity to the internal illustrations.no, that is not spelt incorrectly) Forcing Frankie to embark on a rescue mission across a magical realm. So I hadn't heard of this author before but a few of the books I have read recently have been quite dark plus just life in general so this was perfect book coming along at the perfect time. Frankie did have big plans to watch YouTube and eat pot noodles that weekend but it looks like she'll just have to go on an epic mega-dangerous quest instead .

She is rather disappointed, therefore, when she finds herself stuck at her boring old grandfather’s house for the summer with her annoying little brother, Joel. Frankie and her nerdy younger brother, Joel, normally go and stay at their Aunty’s when their mum and dad go away but this time she’s in hospital.

I found myself smiling all the way through the book and I absolutely adored the subtle Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit nods throughout, specially the “second breakfast “. She’s stuck at Grandad’s with her annoyingly nerdy brother Joel for a whole week while her parents swan off to the Arctic. At points I did feel like the author was trying a bit to hard to relate to a younger audience which is why it got a 4 star rating from me but overall this was fantastic.
