But before reading this I suggest reading the first and second book (this one is more necessary to read before reading the third) or parts of the story may be hard to understand if the first couple are not read. I liked how Hiccup used his language skills, the humor when someone else tried to speak dragonese (without success), the evolution of the relationship between the boy and his father and the nice change of scenery with the Romans (a romanced one of course). But things get WORSE, when the Romans steal Hiccup's precious book HOW TO SPEAK DRAGONESE and Hiccup and Fishlegs are taken off to the Fortress of Sinister! Cressida Cowell is an English children's author, popularly known for the book series, How to Train Your Dragon.The adventure was a lot of fun, involving Romans and some truly hilarious voices done by David Tennant as the voice actor for this audiobook.

I like the way this book shows this message, and how the Vikings slowly understand and listen to Hiccup. Santa brought this book for my son for Christmas this year and it is the ONLY bedtime story I have been allowed to read to him. Having read the first two books to my 6 yr old girl, who loves the film and tv series, we are now on book 3 and loving it. After school, Cressida obtained a BA in English Literature from Oxford University, a BA in Graphic Design from St Martins and an MA in Narrative Illustration from Brighton. What can I say - you will have heard about the film and potentially series, but this is SOOOO MUCH better.Hiccup, the unlikely hero of the story, struggles with a strong father figure and a naughty bite-sized dragon, gets himself in increasingly deadly situations and - somehow - with the help (or in spite of the hindrance) of his friends manages to survive. I had watched the movies first and I'm sorry to say, at least so far, I think the movies are much better. Non è da disdegnare neanche per quei “grandi” che continuano ad amare la letteratura per l’infanzia.

I think I'll give it a good long break before I read another one, since they are charming and fun -- just very definitely aimed at kids.
