About this deal

Witches are always popular around Halloween, or even just in the fall, for that autumnal vibe. In my part of the world, we’re just entering summer, but in some places, bookworms are staring down the business end of winter. If you’re heading into winter, witch books are perfect for a cozy, it’s-dark-and-stormy-outside feeling. That’s the queer vision of the story, anyway. And, perhaps unknowingly, the first act of The Craft does tell it well, in both the original and the reboot’s versions of the tale. The original is grungier, while The Craft: Legacy feels cleaner around the edges. But regardless of which version resonates more, the narrative of four outcasts who delight in their otherness, who find love, acceptance, and found family in one other, escaping society into the welcoming arms of nature to hold hands in the forest and realize their strength, represents a queer experience that so many have lived. Oh this MAGICAL creature! How can I possibly express how incredibly grateful I am to call her my friend… to have had 5 seasons of silliness and giggles, love and camaraderie, late night room service and early morning mad dashes to the airport…. and just being there for each other when we were far from home and loved ones ❤️ Every once in a while we are fortunate enough to meet someone who is SO special and once those paths cross….you are friends (really more like family) forever! Bloodlust and lesbians — what could be a more winning combination? In honor of Halloween month, the programmers at New York arthouse cinema The Quad are showcasing 12 staples of the lesbian vampire genre, because who doesn’t love a broad with bite? Titled “ A Woman’s Bite: Cinema’s Sapphic Vampires,” the series also complements an excellent Jean Rollin retrospective, Très Outré: The Sinister Visions of Jean Rollin, the French horror auteur who put women at the center of his lush, gothic cinema. “A Woman’s Bite” runs October 26-November 1 at The Quad. Bailee!!! you inspire me in so many ways – your kind generous spirit, your work ethic, creativity, talent, care of others, your playful spirit!!! and so much more! LOVE YOU girl!! I will definitely miss you on set.. we ALL will. But I am excited to see where your journey takes you next. And I’m with you wherever that is❤️”

I love the trope of a character returning to their hometown after an extended absence. As someone who moved away from my own hometown as soon as I graduated high school, I can totally relate to those feelings. Nadja (1994)

While Hocus Pocus flopped when it first came out in theaters, the movie has an evergreen run, not just because it’s entertaining but also as with so many witch movies, there’s an undertone of feminist commentary throughout the film. Writer Amanda FitzSimons in her retrospective about the Hocus Pocus 25th Anniversary explains: Halloweentown (1998) this movie is famous for being aired during Halloween season on the Disney Channel. In a sleepy Southern town, there are dark secrets not only about one family, but about the town itself. Soon a woman enters town from an ancient line of witches known as “Casters.” Upon reaching their 16th birthday, all Casters are assigned a role—they will either depict lightness or darkness, good or evil, for the rest of their lives. Film critic Richard Roeper says: “With Beautiful Creatures, we continue the seemingly inevitable march toward a cinematic America with a population 50 percent human, 50 percent ‘other,’ including but not limited to superheroes, mutants, vampires, zombies, werewolves, mummies, fairies, angels, witches, ghosts, demons and the undefined undead.” The VVitch(2015) Thomasin in The Witch. Emmy's family normally acts as the arbiters for the competition and because of where she falls within the family line, it is her turn. She could have passed the duties on to her overzealous cousin, but Emmy feels like it is finally time for her to be involved.

Viviane's family beat and lashed her after they discovered explicit text messages she had sent to her girlfriend.

Prolific Spanish filmmakerJesús Franco was known for stylish exploitation films, and cast his favorite leading lady Soledad Miranda (billed as Susann Korda)in what would be the fourth of eight collaborations between the two. Franco transposed Bram Stoker’s short story “Dracula’s Guest” to 1970s Istanbul, where Dracula’s heir sets her sights on American lawyer Linda (Ewa Strömberg). However, do we have a real connection to actual witchcraft, outside of the stereotypical figure used to silence us and the commercialization of its rich history? Lesbian witches Witchcraft of any kind is about empowering yourself, tapping into your power, your gifts,” confirms Emilia Ortiz. “It can also be about finding your personal power when it comes to your oppressor. LGBTQ+ have been oppressed throughout the world for centuries, varying in the degree, while also being accepted and celebrated in some cultures (including being regarded as highly spiritually connected). For me, being a bi/pansexual woman, it has been so empowering to be a witch. To operate on a spectrum energetically, not just sexually? To be able to tap into my intuition and converse with my guides for safety purposes? To be able to cast love spells on myself so I could fall in love with the parts of me that society tried to weaponise against me? That has been so powerful and healing for me.” The divorce procedure was completed in the year 2015. The cause of this breakup is not known. Finally, we could not have completed this on time without the help of our good pals Lauren, Bec and Kathryn. It was looking very much like we were going to have to delay the release of the list until they chipped in to help with research and honestly we are so incredibly grateful. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I had a lot of people that were older than me saying, ‘I watched that movie so many times because that was all we really had,’” she said. In this case, I use the word queer in its most diffuse form. There are many ways one can envision themselves as queer, be that through the lens of gender, sexuality, romantic affinity, or any other aspects of life that might put you on the queer spectrum. But queerness, though it has footholds in any one thing or another, reflects something about how one conducts their life. Would people who define themselves as not-queer raise a brow at any part of someone else’s existence? That, in my opinion, is enough to declare queerness. At its heart, the definition of the word is , after all, “ strange; odd. Peculiar or curious.” In short, not the norm.
